Owls are keeping me busy these days. I just came home from a nice rendezvous with a Long-eared Owl. Amazingly it was hunting during daytime. Perhaps the large amount of snow forces the owls to hunt during the day?

The whole show was over very fast, too fast actually. However, I managed to take a few shots while it was taking a dive at a rodent underneath the snow at close range. After that the owl disappeared with a vole. Let’s hope the lunch tasted well.

A Long-eared Owl is ready to attack a rodent that is hidden underneath the snow. The slightest noise from a vole is enough to locate the prey acoustically. I like this photograph very much, even though the photograph is not completely sharp. It has however certain feeling and it shows the fast movement of the bird very well.
