In a few weeks time, after more than 25 years of passionate photography, I will start working as a full time wildlife photographer, something I am looking forward to. In order to be prepared for the big challenge to make a living out of wildlife photography, I recently invested not only in one, but in two camera models. And one of them was really special.

No, I am not talking about the black one to the left, I am referring to the blue camera model to the right. It is a smaller model, called “Kid Tough” which is produced by Fisher Price. It is indeed a fully functioning digital camera for kids from the early age of only three years. I bought this camera for my little daughter and she just loves to run around with it and photographs whatever she sees, while mom and dad run around with other, larger cameras, doing the same.

The image quality is ok, the resolution is 0.3 megapixels, good enough to see and display what you photograph on the display on the back. You can download images to a computer, zoom a little before taking the photograph, browse through the photographs, erase them and take new ones with a total of only seven buttons. The rubber coating makes sure that it survives falling down on the floor.

The camera has a 1:1 display on tha back, now showing a photograph of a pot of flowers.

One can surely wonder if it really is necessary that small kids start with photography at such an early age. Well, honestly, it probably isn’t. But this camera is not really so much about photography. Instead, it allows children to develop creativity and to observe and see things around them. It is a very welcome addition to other, more classic ways of developing creativity and play.

And my daughter with her blue camera now enjoys even more being outside, photographing flowers and bugs and everything she sees, side by side with her parents.
